Why a sitemap can bring success
If you are browsing through a catalogue and can not find the type of product you are looking for, where do you turn?.......to the index of course.
Websites should also have an index, but these are more commonly known as sitemaps. A sitemap is basically a directory style text listing of all the pages on your webite with text links to the pages themselves. For an example of a sitemap please visit http://www.google.com/sitemap.html
Now a sitemap has two main benefits. The first is that visitors can visit your sitemap to quickly find the page they are looking for. Secondly a sitemap is ideal for seacrh engines as they can quickly index your entire site from one page. With so many sites having fancy javascript or rollover images as navigation options, it can become more difficult for the search engine bots to delve more deeply in to your site.
With a sitemap and simply text links it really does help the search engines, and also you will start to capitalise on the keywords and product/services on your inner pages.
Remember that you should link to your sitemap from your homepage at the very least, butideally from each page on your site.
A sitemap can be created in around 15mins and can really bring great returns!
