Why you need to be the best
Unfortunately this newsletter has taken a couple of weeks to materialise, mainly due to a few days rest and recovery in hospital overseas (food poisoning) and although I am not going to dwell too much on that it made me think, whilst on coach towards my hotel, how many hotels there were all fighting for the vast amount of UK holiday makers travelling overseas. How do they attract visitors, what are there marketing methods?
Before travelling we knew many people who had recently been to the same location and it was amazing how many people remembered the name of their hotel and every other detail (which has benefits on two reasons which I will explain below) and how our choices of hotel were made easier because of this.
If you think about it, this is how search engines work all the time. They need to send their visitors to the best websites, not a website that has the odd keyword – or semi-related to the search term, but the best website. Always keep this in mind whenever carrying out any search engine optimisation. It may sound obvious but if you take a look at the competition and think their website is better designed, or their website is easier to navigate, then make changes to your own. By becoming the best you will naturally be classed as the best.
Now in to this week’s newsletter (as originally promised) how a press release can do wonders for SEO. Just by writing a press release search engines do not instantly place your website up its listings by a few hundred places but media websites are visited often and have good PR (Page Rank). By writing press releases, that go on to be shown within the magazine, can often lead to the same article being placed on the media publications website – with a very important link back to your site. A link from a respected media publication can look very favourably.
Sometimes the offline work you carry out can have a good effect on the online optimisation you are trying to achieve.
A recommendation for help writing a press release can be found at http://www.pr4everyone.co.uk and if you are looking for a more professional service why not try Alex at http://www.originpr.co.uk who I have found helpful in the past.
Also, and a little sneaky plug, Family Day Out UK (http://www.familydayoutuk.co.uk) has a great range of ideas for keeping the little ones amused this school summer holidays – plus write a review on one of the days out listed and you could win a £50 Amazon gift voucher.
